PRESS RELEASE: New monthly “Urban Flea Market” launches in Asoke neighborhood
BANGKOK, Thailand – September 15, 2022 – A monthly preloved clothing flea market is coming to the Asoke/Phrom Phong neighborhood.
Hosted at the HOME BKK, a warm communal space, the inaugural event and opening ceremony will be held Sunday, September 18, 2022.
Socially conscious consumers and bargain hunters are invited to thrift preloved women’s, men’s and children/baby clothing, accessories, jewelry and upcycled crafts and designer items and purchase other products from brands with a sustainable focus in the cozy atmosphere of THE HOME BKK.
The event is a collaboration between the Bangkok Recycling Chain OFFICIAL group on Facebook and The HOME BKK network.
It is sustainability and slow-fashion themed - a place for people to clear their closets & declutter their homes, and also for brands with a sustainable element to participate. As for the food, it will be vegan or allergen friendly with efforts towards zero-waste packaging – packaging must be recyclable or biodegradable, as the HOME BKK is a single-use-plastic-free environment.
“This is our effort to promote more circular economy solutions for socially conscious consumers. After we launched our Bangkok Recycling Chain clothing swap event in August, we had quite a few people asking about an event where they could also sell their items – and that’s how we came up with the Urban Flea Market concept,” shares Anne Somanas, founder of the Bangkok Recycling Chain group.
“Within just 72 hours of launching the Market, we had nearly 100 people interested in our first event. This shows there is a strong demand for places to exchange preloved clothing and household items and promote a circular economy.”
At 3 PM on September 18 during the first Urban Flea Market, there also will be an opening ceremony and panel on sustainable fashion with Bangkok Recycling Chain founder & event organizer Anne Somanas, micro-blogger & slow fashion advocate Aparna Sharma from Stylish Suitcase, Carla Soledad Rivera, sustainable fashion designer and founder of Soledad Designs and owner of the HOME BKK, and Margot Doré, founder of upcoming slow-fashion brand Sorore to discuss how we can be more conscious consumers and promote sustainable fashion solutions.
The monthly “Urban Flea Market” will be held on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of each month from 1-5 PM at the HOME BKK, Sukhumvit Soi 23.
